Dirk Janek

Chief Executive Officer

Dirk joined Spectra QEST in 1991 and became a member of the company's Board of Directors in 1998.

In his role as CEO, Dirk overseas the execution of Spectra QEST’s strategy and has overall management responsibility for the business. He is a long standing board member and shareholder who has held various positions at Spectra QEST, most recently as Executive Director, Technology. In addition to extensive experience in the design, architecting and development of enterprise grade software he also has extensive experience in customer implementations, sales and business development.

Stephan Mavrakis, BSc(Ma&CompSc), BE(Elec), GradDipBusEnt, MIEng(Aust)

Executive Director, Global Sales

Stephan joined Spectra QEST in 1997, and became a member of the company's Board of Directors in 1998.

Stephan has extensive experience in assisting clients to select backbone software systems for use in construction materials production, construction materials and soils testing and in geotechnical investigations. He has been involved in the selection and commissioning of some of the world’s largest and most complex software systems in these industries.

He is currently responsible for overseeing the sales of the Spectra QEST group globally, as well as other Business Development tasks that will enable Spectra QEST to further increase its international presence and realize more of its considerable, global commercial potential.

Stephan is a Professional Engineer (membership no. 580973, Engineers Australia) and holds degrees in Electrical/Electronic Engineering and Mathematics (majoring in Computer Science) as well as postgraduate qualifications in Business Innovation and Commercialization.

Michael Sautner, BE(Civil, Hons), BSc

Executive Director, Services and Executive Director, Finance

Michael joined Spectra QEST in January 2006, and became a member of the company’s Board of Directors in 2010.

In his role as Executive Director, Services, Michael is responsible for overseeing the delivery of implementation and support services to new and existing customers. As Executive Director, Finance, Michael is also responsible for the financial and legal aspects of Spectra QEST’s operations.

Michael completed his double degree in chemistry and civil engineering (with first class honors) at the University of Adelaide in 2001. He subsequently worked as an engineer in the Adelaide office of global engineering, construction, and services company KBR. He has also held the position of General Manager at Western Murray Irrigation Limited, a public irrigation company located in Dareton in western NSW, which supplies water to its approximately 400 shareholders.

Dr. Manfred Sautner, PhD(Civil), MIEAust, CPEng


Manfred established Spectra Systems (later renamed Spectra QEST) in January 1984.

Manfred identified a need for a comprehensive laboratory database and quality control system for premix concrete producers and used his extensive engineering knowledge and IT skills to produce Spectra's first product, the CACTP (Computer Aided Concrete Testing Package).

He was Managing Director of Spectra for the next 14 years, evolving more innovative ideas into successful products for related industries. Manfred stepped down as Managing Director early in 1998 to pursue related interests by taking a technical position in the construction materials industry.

Manfred went on to work in senior technical roles in concrete manufacturing in Australia and the United States. He was recognized for his innovation and entrepreneurship when Ernst & Young nominated him as a finalist for the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year award in the Australian Central Region in 2009.

He holds a PhD in Civil Engineering (University of Stuttgart) with a focus on experimental modeling of concrete behavior.

Manfred remains a major shareholder, board member and valuable, active advisor to Spectra QEST.
